Smart Meter installation

We had our smart meter system upgraded for gas and electricity. Yas the engineer was super friendly and efficient and had it all changed and setup done. He explained in detail how it work and left the site clean and tidy. Yas is an asset to the company for his professional work done and attitude.

Horrid experience with this company. The engineer was unable to find parking and was unable to complete my job. I booked a day off from work to be at home! I found out that AES penalise the engineers if they cant complete the job when its out of their control. I feel sorry for their gas engineers! Must be a horrible company to work for - The reviews sum them up!

Came out on time and connected up my gas smart meter that hadn't ever sent readings to the supplier. He also supplied a new IHD and explained all it's functions. The engineer was called Akbar Alam and I have to say is a credit to your company, being pleasant,courteous and informative and efficient

I wish AES HAS never changed my smart…

I wish AES HAS never changed my smart meter as Somthing is dodgy and suspicious THAT AES DOING. Engineer Scot installed smart meter on 23.09.2025 in my House but never provided any IHD device. Never provided my last readings of my electric meters. When asked about, Is this my ihd ? then he started making excuses and took ihd with him. Never provided me smart meter number. Today 7 October and I don't know my usage, no ihd, no meter details. This is how this AES providing service . WHATS A POINT OF HAVING SMART METER !! I'm very disappointed .

Work carried out professionally and with courtesy

Akbar fitted my new electric and gas smart meters today...to be honest it was something I d been put off doing as I d read so many bad reviews about smart meters in general. Akbar had phoned to let me know he was 30 mins away. He arrived on time and quickly put my mind at ease...talking me through everything he would be doing and would leave me with all gas and electric equipment up and running. I did nt have to do a thing!. He was a very knowledgeable, courteous man not leaving until everything had been set up and explained to me. Thankyou!

Smart meter installation

Michael Peers, engineer, called on the day of appointment to give me his time of arrival. He was friendly, professional and replaced my RTS meter with a smart meter very efficiently.

Excellent service

Joe and Andy were polite, courteous and very thorough. Joe explained process throughout. Joe also gave us a call 30 minutes before his arrival. It was expalined that Andy was shadowing him as he was being trained.

Joke of a company went out to one of my Installs to install a smart meter and at risked it saying the flue wasn’t Sealed didn’t even bother to look on the outside I have engineers name and number will be reporting clearly not competent engineers carry out these works

My experience with AES-Smart Metering Ltd. was deeply disappointing and highlighted a complete lack of professionalism and respect for customers' homes. The issues began the moment the engineer arrived. He walked straight onto my driveway and started opening the gas box without knocking or introducing himself. I had to approach him to start a conversation, and even then, I was met with an indifferent groan rather than a polite greeting. When I asked if everything was alright, he mentioned he might not have the right part for the job. I offered if he needed anything to give me a shout. Things quickly went downhill. About five minutes later, my front door opened without a knock or announcement—the engineer simply let himself in. He asked if he could use the toilet, which I agreed to, as any reasonable person would. However, what followed was completely unacceptable. After he was in and out of the bathroom pretty swiftly, I noticed I hadn’t heard the tap being used, indicating he hadn’t washed his hands despite soap and a towel being available and his work gloves remaining on! Worse still, when I went into the toilet myself, I found an unpleasant smell and marks left in the bowl. The lack of basic hygiene was shocking, especially as he had touched door handles and switches that my children regularly use. Later, while I was across the road letting my dog out, the engineer entered my unoccupied house again without asking. I returned to find him in my kitchen, searching for a socket to plug in a device. No explanation, no prior warning—just helping himself. He then asked where the fuse box was, turned off the power without clarifying how long it would be off, and only afterwards asked if there were any power-dependent devices. At the time, I was working from home with an important meeting scheduled. When I explained this, he offered a power pack but made no effort to ensure it would be compatible with my Wi-Fi, leaving me unable to connect. The disruption to my work was significant and entirely avoidable with better communication. While working outside, the engineer's behaviour was also concerning. He was frequently talking to himself, swearing, and laughing intermittently. This only added to the discomfort I felt throughout the entire experience. I must add one ever so slightly positive note seeing as 1 star was given. Although I was furious with the way the visit went the engineer did provide me with some useful information on my solar panels and the use of a battery. Despite this, Overall, this was one of the worst encounters I’ve had with a service professional. The lack of basic manners, respect for my home, and hygiene standards was unacceptable. AES-Smart Metering Ltd. clearly needs to reassess their training and expectations for staff behaviour. I cannot recommend this company and would advise others to proceed with caution.

A massive thanks to Adam Forster from AES smart metering ltd for coming down to fix the power supply issue at my place. I was expecting that I might have to go through the night with no power supply. Adam serviced everything and sorted the power for us out of the normal hours and fixed it. Massive thanks again for such service! Thank you Adam! You are a star!!!

My energy supplier appointed me this company to fit a new electric meter as mine is faulty. Managed to get an appointment on my week off from work, so I was very lucky. Was up from the crack of dawn because my appointment was scheduled between 8am to 12pm. Got round to 11am and had a phone call from the company to ask if I was at home, which I stated I was and had been for the last 3 days. Apparently the guy turned up and phoned me to let me know he was there. I received NO call. I had been looking out the window from my flat on and off all morning as my bedroom sits on the main road and thats where I was. I saw nobody. I also had my windows open to listen out too. They then said they will phone him to see if he would go back. I had a phone call 20 minutes later to say he wasn't coming back as he had moved on to another job and I need to rebook. At this point I was so angry because I have to wait until October to rearrange an appointment for when I'm next off. I never normally get angry on the phone with customer service staff but I had had it at that point. Not to mention being up early when I am on annual leave and I am exhausted from my job as it is. Utterly disgusting that the engineer would lie to say they had knocked on the door and phoned me to say they were there. I have made a formal complaint with the company and So Energy. The guy on the phone was very apologetic and that I am giving a completely different story to what the engineer gave him. Seems like these reviews all have the same experience. I reckon the guy was just lazy and wanted to be paid for work he wasn't doing.

0 star would be given if possible. Had a day off work to get my meter installed, waited 4 months for this! Had a call to say the guy had left as couldn't gain access to the property. Told the lady on the phone no one had knocked my door. She said she had a photo of the house I confirmed it was mine and she told me his tracker states he was here for 15 mins. I told her I have cctv showing he walks past the house with his phone in his hand and not once does he even walk up my path let alone knock the door. She put me on hold to see if he could come back. When back she said no he is on his way to the next one out of the area and would need to re book. Also re told me he did knock and I didn't answer. Ignored me when I said I have footage of what he did and that he had not even put a foot on my property. Very poor customer service.

So had a run in with this delightful fellow...... Who thinks that driving on the wrong side of the road, while on his mobile phone gives him right of way, despite having a gap to move into he wouldn't move, on contacting the company I was given a email address for complaints that doesn't work, and they also have a domain that doesn't have a website professional company...... Explains this driver's attitude.

My energy supplier sent this company to my home to install Smart Meters. Nobody attended at the appointed time slot so I contacted them and was advised that their portal showed the engineer “on site” but he wasn’t. An engineer arrived 45 minutes after my call , explaining that he had been taken off of another job to come to me. He was not happy. I showed him the location of my electric meter whereupon he sat on my solar battery and proceeded to have a heated telephone conversation about being taken off of one job to do another. My wife suggested that if he did not want to be here he should leave. He responded by telling my wife not to listen to his conversation, how rude, sitting in my home, having a row with his boss. He changed the electric meter and then went to change the gas meter but returned without completing the task, saying that it didn’t fit. During the 3 hours that he was on site he appeared to be very slow and difficult to talk too. On a couple of occasions he handed me his smart phone and told me to “sign here”. When I asked to read the text he told me “that is nothing to do with you, just sign” I did sign with an X. As he was about to leave, my wife said that our central heating boiler was not working. I went to check and re-started it. I heard him shouting to my wife that it was nothing to do with him, at which point I intervened by telling him to get out of my house. Leaving 1 star as it's sadly not possible to leave 0. Called me to arrange a smart meter upgrade appointment on behalf of our energy supplier (So Energy). Did not turn up for the appointment (that I'd taken the day off work for) nor did they call me to cancel. This also inconvenienced my neighbours who had to clear their drive to facilitate meter access. Now switching energy supplier and won't use anyone who uses these clowns. Lots of reviews saying similar, just wish I'd read them before today!

These guys came to my house and called me on the phone. I immediately proceeded to open the door and these guys just sat in their vans even after I made myself known to them and drove off. I figure they must just get paid for driving around. From other reviews I see they most definitely a very unprofessional company. EDIT - after a call to the office and this review they came back and knocked so I have bumped up the rating to a 3.

Have been trying to book a smart meter install with AES via Octopus since October but have been unable to book the appointment online and requests from Octopus to AES to contact me to book the install in went unanswered. Finally got through and booked an appointment at the start of November for today between 1pm - 5pm and was advised the engineer would be in contact with an ETA on the day. No contact received at 4pm so decided to phone AES to check - after almost an hour on hold (now after 5pm) I was told that they wouldn't be able to install today as despite the engineer being willing to attend, the meters wouldn't work as their commissioning team finish at 5pm. Only option was to rebook for the next slot which isn't until the end of January. Complete waste of a day off work (not to mention the financial cost of this) and now over a month to wait again.

I have updated this review as the mistake I encountered was no fault of AES metering but a mix up of email between my supplier and me. I do think it would have been wise for AES to respond to my earlier review though.

Had an appointment 9-1pm. Given the reviews I gave them a call at 11am to check they were still coming. Was on hold for 50 minutes before getting through to someone. Then was told the engineers van had broken down so he would not be able to keep morning appointments. I don’t live at the property so a waste of a day for me.
