New Solar Install

We requested Solar panels and storage to be installed having been recommended The Solar Co. The pre install and discussions about how many panels, size, location and battery capacity was easy, friendly and very straight forward. The day of install was staggeringly fast, starting at 8 am and completing at 4pm. As soon as the power was connected we started generating electricity despite it not being sunny. An excellent service both pre and post. One thing to note is that the setting up of the link between inverter and router was done discretely and very quickly at the time of the install. But if for any reason you change or update your router, the procedure to link the App to the system is quite complex, somewhat baffling and requires patience and a steady hand. Especially if you're doing it remotely. Happily for us, George took us through the steps one by one so we managed to reconnect everything as before.

I don’t normally do reviews, but I have to review this company as they really were excellent. The Solar Co installed an extensive system for me with panels across 3 roofs – back in 2024. They were the lowest quote but absolutely superb in terms of their professionalism, knowledge, communication and delivery of the project. Mark and George are great to deal with. I really wanted to write this review now as they have just come back (Jan 2026) and saved me from a flood – they have a roofing company they work with as well and they got them up there re-did my flat roofs almost instantly – removing the panels and replacing them afterwards seamlessly. The quality of that work too was excellent and communication great. I’ve had a lot of work done on my old house and usually something goes awry- but these folks are the best.

Problem solved in minutes!

I contacted The Solar Co. when my solar panel meter went blank. George Penny came to investigate 2 days later and the problem was solved in minutes. He was pleasant, efficient, explained clearly what he did and why, and was patient with my rather clueless questions. I have often wondered what I would do if I had a problem with my panels. Now I know who to call!

Our new solar system (21 panels)

Our new solar system (21 panels, 10 kWh battery, and Zappi) was up and running yesterday afternoon — and it was so cool seeing the panels making “lecky” (electricity)! All done within a day. George, Mark, and their team were superb. As others have said, the process starts with George visiting in person, armed with his fancy drone that measures and maps your roof. He discovered we could fit 21 panels up there — this after another company told us our roof wasn’t even suitable for panels (haha). Like another reviewer mentioned, our consumer unit is awkwardly located in the middle of the house under the stairs, but George came up with a smart, workable solution. Mark came a little later for a second run through and check measurements. The scaffolding was up on the Thursday and the rest of the work done the next Tuesday. We also went with a set with the Zappi so it can never drain the battery — an issue you’ll see discussed online, especially if you’re on Octopus Intelligent Go( I now know a little about Henley blocks and separate consumer units and CTs ). The roofers arrived promptly at 7:30 a.m. on installation day, with the electricians not far behind. Mark and George were also on site, making sure everything ran like clockwork. From start to finish, it was a completely stress-free experience — such a nice group of people, all of them. They clearly take pride in their work, and their professionalism is impeccable. If you can, go local that’s best, someone turning up at your house and asking and answering questions, so much better than trying to use your google maps image and photos you’ve taken yourself before getting a quote (what a faff!). Going local means the same people you read about in the reviews are the ones who turn up and do the job whereas large national companies are going to subcontract to people near you that may not always be the best. Not saying that it won’t still go smoothly but why risk it if you don’t have to. We haven’t got an EV yet, but when we do (soon!), I won’t hesitate to call George and Mark again if we are struggling with anything. Thanks lads - if we get a heat pump (our system is future proofed so this would be very doable) in the future I will definitely go with this company.

We have our system installed over a year ago. The installation was prompt and smooth. The Inverter broke down after a year but was replaced by Solar Co in no time without me filling any form nor paper work. George and his team were also helpful. The after sale service is fantastic. I can’t fault this company.

Really impressed

Really impressed - the service was bespoke and friendly, rather than one size fits all. The solar installation was promptly arranged and, on the day itself, quick and efficient. And after installation, the odd question we've had has been answered quickly, even out of hours.

I recently had a 16.1kWh Fogstar battery installed to complement my existing Sunsynk 5.5kWh inverter, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the work carried out by The Solar Co. From the outset, the entire process was smooth and professional. A special thank you to George Penny for handling the sales process with clarity and efficiency. Everything was well explained, communication was prompt, and there was never any pressure—just honest, straightforward guidance that helped me make an informed decision. All questions were answered quickly and clearly, the latter being particularly useful as we are solar novices (so had some very basic questions to address). On installation day, Jake and Mark did a superb job. They carried out the integration of the new battery system and enabled the UPS emergency power supply with a proper earthing rod, all done neatly and competently. Although they did not finish on the day, they came back again the following week to complete the job, showing great commitment to seeing the work through properly. During the process, they also uncovered a serious fault left by previous installers—some live cables had not been connected correctly, and the joining connector block had shown signs of melting. Though this wasn’t part of their brief, Jake and Mark very kindly and promptly rectified the issue by replacing the faulty connector blocks and making everything safe again. That level of care and responsibility truly stood out. Following payment, full documentation and an updated system diagram were provided, which was very helpful for our records and ongoing understanding of the system. The system is now performing excellently, and the new Fogstar batteries are running brilliantly. I’m very impressed with the quality of service and workmanship from The Solar Co., and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

George and Mark have been amazing to work with. From the first meeting with George, it was evident that he's passionate about what he does and fully understands the intricacies of the pre-install calculations to enable him to advise on the best set up required for our personal needs. He and Mark have an excellent team, who are polite, hard working and very professional. They kept to time and are very reliable. One of the most reassuring things was that they have extremely high standards of install, and a highly qualified and expert electrician, to ensure the correct fitment and cabling. They use excellent roofers (which was one of our worries) but we have had an excellent job done, not only relating to the solar install, but also making appropriate repairs to our roof and guttering, which needed attention - I was very happy with the quality of their work, and convinced that they did not over charge, or do unnecessary work. Since the install, George has ensured that all the paperwork was completed with the network company and supplier and that the system was working perfectly. In addition, after a visit from Octopus, a misplacement of sensors resulted in a problem, which George very kindly arranged for his own electrician to come out and sort, rather than me trying to chase Octopus for a re-visit. For years I had hesitated about getting solar, purely because of concerns as to who to get it done by. I can wholeheartedly recommend George, Mark and his team at the Solar Co, and can also confirm that communication continues even after the job, whenever I have any questions. We were recommended The Solar Co. by nearby friends who'd used them for their solar panels, and we're so glad they did. We used The Solar Co. to reinstate our entire roof (ready for solar panels) and remove an unused chimney stack, and to then install 21 panels feeding through to a Sunsynk inverter and 16kWh Fogstar battery. We're thrilled with the results. Great communication from the start and an end product that exactly matched what was described in the quote. Pragmatic solutions were proposed and agreed upon for the few inevitable issues that arose - we felt engaged and consulted with throughout. The attention to detail and pride in their work was evident at every step, and they kept in regular contact (in person, by text and by email as needed) to keep our minds at rest. All questions were answered quickly and clearly, the latter being particularly useful as we are solar novices (so had some very basic questions to address). I relocated to Gloucestershire from SW London in 2024 & carried out an extensive extension & renovation of a 140 year old period cottage. There is no mains gas here and the existing property had oil fired heating. I wanted to run the property on electric only and to do so as cheaply as possible in order to insulate ourselves from possible electricity price increases. I knew it would involve batteries so I also wanted an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) in the event of a power cut. To my surprise I couldn’t find many solar companies out there that would offer this element. Mark & George at The Solar & Renewables Company had no issues at all with the UPS. They also advised I use the really smart GSE in roof system which looks amazing and also saved me a lot of money on slates! Their quote was extremely competitive & the work was all carried out in a single day at the exact time I needed it in the build schedule. Now we are living here and have had some decent weather I can see how George’s calculations were in no way optimistic! Our electric bill is tiny compared to our last house and even better it’s the only bill!! We also had a Mitsubishi Ecodan heat pump & hot water system installed by them taking advantage of the £7,500 grant available. The system is working really well, the house was like toast during the very cold weather we had this winter I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Solar and Renewables Company

Thank-you to all the team at Solar co for providing us with our new solar system just before Christmas. What a fantastic Christmas present! The whole experience was seamless from start to finish and we were so impressed with all the advice we received including the great digital tool to play around with equipment parameters and also how quickly George slotted in for our install. An initial chat with George was very informative. We appreciated the visit from Mark who was very thorough with his survey, sending a drone up to take pictures of our flat roof and answering our questions. The scaffolding was organised and came up and down when promised. Panels were installed on our flat roof three storeys up on our loft conversion and sloped roof at the front, along with inverter and battery on the side wall. Particular thanks to Dan on the electrics who on install day spotted and fixed a problem on our fuseboards where the smart meter had been incorrectly and unsafely installed. We are excited for the Spring and Summer ahead to see what the plant can do at its maximum potential.

Further details below but the summary is that they were very responsive and communicative throughout and we’re very happy with both the process and the end result. The price was equivalent to the Octopus quote but with much better service. Essentially we were holding back on getting it done because it’s difficult to know who might be cowboys in this fast-growing market, but we’re very happy we chose this small, owner-managed business to support. Further details: - We heard of the Solar Co because a neighbour got solar panels done by them and was happy with them - I had A LOT of questions and reservations about the process but George (the company is run by George and Mark) was more than happy to answer all of them - clearly and usefully! - via WhatsApp and over the phone - They’ve provided us with app access so we can get on with buying electricity from and selling electricity to the grid - the returns on this are much better than you might have been led to believe so the payback time for solar panels is much quicker than I thought. The key is a flux tariff - George can provide more details - We also spoke to Octopus but it seems that they weren’t interested in our business because they just didn’t call back once they knew the spec (high roof, and slightly awkward panel position over a pipe vent) - apparently it’s quite common for them to not be interested in even slightly complicated installs - They also cleared our gutters and removed some annoying, useless cables from the side of the house that have been bothering since we moved in! Just a nice touch - We also coordinated it with George so that the scaffolding is being left up for a few more days so we can get windows done at the same time - this has been useful to us! He dealt with all the scaffolding - When the day for the install came, the 15 panels were delivered in the morning and the install and handover were complete by 2:30pm!! - Mark and George are both useful guys to have around and their team has done a very tidy job. Would recommend!

I wanted Solar panels with a battery installed, however, who do I go to? Octopus and Heatable have their online quotes but their quotes don't include bird protection or any of the miscellaneous stuff. I reached out to George at Solar Co. and he offered to drive over, he sent up his drone to look at the roof and later that day he sent over his quote with the elements he would install. After I called him several times to check on this and that, we agreed a price. On installation day all elements of the Solar Co Team were polite professional and helpful. Nothing was a challenge for them. George called in throughout the day to ensure the project ran on time without any hitches. The day after the installation, George emailed me my certificates and licences for selling to the grid. I am very pleased I went with a local business and went with Solar Co (George & Mark) I would happily recommend Solar Co to anyone.
