If you don’t qualify for a grant don’t expect them to tell you.

Laura from Optima sent out a surveyor they said we might be entitled to government grant. Surveyor was lovely. He was in our house for over 1 hour. He said he would let Optama know his findings and they would be in touch. Laura rang to say they would be in touch to discuss. We were told by the surveyor to expect an energy report at the very least. The company never got back to me to advise if we were getting the grant. I can only assume after several attempts to contact them that we weren’t accepted for grant. We didn’t meet the criteria. That’s 5 months now.

Here’s my honest review. Heat pump install and internal wall insulation. The communication within Optama is almost non existent. Something is seriously wrong at a high level. Excuses are made as if it’s our fault that they cannot meet agreed terms. We got the ball rolling in early October with a quote. We essentially didn’t hear from anyone for weeks after that. It was like pulling teeth to even get the job started. Finally they began mid December. Then, our Heat pump install was delayed by over a month - they blamed everyone except themselves. Mid install they were sending workers to other properties rather than finishing our job. Left us freezing cold for weeks in the middle of winter. Gave us small temporary heaters that racked our energy bill up to over £1000. Left our house a mess and did damage that was left for weeks without fixing. Internal wall insulation done poorly, walls are wonky and not straight. The vibe is clear from a top level: money comes first, service comes last. I would not recommend using them to anyone.

Waste of time been waiting 2 months for a call back to have home assessed for air source. I've contacted them numerous times, each time "someone will call you back" which never happens. Don't waste your time.

I cannot praise Optama and its work…

I cannot praise Optama and its work team highly enough. Many thanks to Linda, who managed the project, always cheerful and encouraging. Gillian, Cheryl and Lyndsay were patient and supportive throughout. The work team really were second to none.Each hard working, polite and reliable.All boxes and waste materials were cleared away at 8am the following morning. Thank you to all, brilliant!

Well done OPTAMA

From my initial meeting with Karen and subsequent discussions with Linda, Lorna,Gillian,Cheryl,and Leigh they were very professional in dealing with all the applications that was required for my installation. The installation team were very skillful in their workmanship and dealt with any problems that occurred. From first meeting to complete installation took less than two months to complete . Can’t thank Optama enough for the help in getting my solar energy system installed. Have to mention Linda who was both helpful and diligent in managing the project. All trades were hard working and efficient, I strongly recommend this company .

Cannot praise this company and their…

Cannot praise this company and their workers enough. Efficient , on time, kept us informed about how the job was progressing. There was no slacking . They all worked very hard. They tidied up after themselves worked around us and were good with our pets . All the old heating equipment was taken away. Of course it was a bit chaotic as it was a big job but optama made the whole process as smooth as it could be.

Absolute disaster

Wonderful experience the guys were experienced and polite. They worked so hard and were so polite. Clean and tidy couldn’t have asked for better, so impressed. Also thanks to Linda and Barrie. Everything went so smoothly it was amazing. Five stars to u all. Things change floors in my house will never be the same. Pipe work left unboxed around radiators don’t fit . One wall in my kitchen is an absolute disaster. Getting no where to get someone to fix this. I wish I had never started this. Absolute lack of communication did not help

Would recommend

Friendly service from start to finish. No hard sell, which I hate! Michael was very helpful, even before I had decided to go with Optama. Had cavity wall and loft insulation installed, both extraction and installation teams kept me informed and cleaned up after themselves. Air source heat pump team were great, installed radiators where I wanted them, and were very efficient! Waiting for solar panels now!

Optama carried out full installation with great communication

Optama carried out full installations to my property through Eco4 funding. Air source heat pump, radiators, bedrooms and loft insulation, wall extractor fans /venting and Solar Panels in the garden after I had completed the initial preparation ground work. All work carried out was expertly done to a high standard, the workforce involved were friendly and respectful to the property with minimal disruption. All work was completed within five working days, one after the other they came and seemed to be in touch with each other as to when to start their particular trade of work. Needless to say all unused materials and rubbish was removed from the property. Octama kept me informed throughout the process with excellent communication, I was never left wondering. All questions and enquiries were quickly answered and gave me the utmost confidence in the Eco4 installation. In my opinion staff at Octama and the tradesmen themselves are a credit to the company. Many Thanks

Easy, upfront, communicative. Recommend

They made the entire process easy, they were upfront and communicative. The work was done well and quickly, they were great even after the work was done. They cared about even the little things and sent someone out to check the house for any snags at the end and make sure we were happy. At one stage we had a few teams working in the house at the same time. there was a small incident but it was resolved and fixed up and we are really happy with the work. the house is like night and day since the heating was changed and the insulation completed. the control system is really easy to use too. A year later I needed to get back in touch and customer service still very friendly and helpful. Id recommend this company especially with the horror stories that I have heard and even witnessed myself.

Energy efficiency improvements - sorted

Optama handled my application for funding to improve my homes energy efficiency. They also managed the installation process, which involved solar panels & storage heaters. There were a couple of minor issues during installation - but these were rectified within a few days.

A week to install air source and boiler

The installation of the air source & boiler was done in a week, there was a lot of moving belongings about, lots of people coming and going, lots of big holes being drilled in walls, then new pipes to connect the new radiators but not thankfully under the floors or though the walls, a fair amount of mess but the guys cleared it up when they left, they had sticky plastic that covered the floors and carpets and stairs, so no mess left behind. The air source unit is huge and sits under the bathroom window, so not massively noticeable from inside, from outside you cant miss it, but hey ho overall its an improvement on the oil tank!! It can be noisy, the first few nights it seemed like the entire house was humming, then via the app the unit if now off from midnight to 8am, the noise is less noticeable though the day. The boiler takes up a lot more space vertically than the old oil boiler did and is not contained in a neat box like the old boiler, we've no idea how to conceal it, so find a spot in your house where the boiler and all the components inc the labyrinth of copper pipes, expansion cylinders and insulation can be hidden, you will appreciate that in the long run. Our boiler is in the lobby, we are still working out the best way to hide it!! Other than that everything was fine and dandy, the guys polite and courteous. One point to bear in mind, if you have wrought iron radiators like we did, and the guys need to take them out, get someone else to help with that task. They weight a ton and its not fair on their backs, having to lug from upstairs to outside. Once we realised how much they weighted the guys had already lugged them :( so just a tip to offer and give them a hand.

I am hugely grateful to Optama for the…

I am hugely grateful to Optama for the installation of radiators and solar panels to my house, also having my loft insulation updated, and all on Government funding, initially I thought it was too good to be true but I was wrong! There was a certain amount of uncertainty regarding the starting date but when the tradesmen arrived they were quick and efficient, and did a brilliant clean up job of all the mess involved in removing old storage heaters and installing new ones, along with 3 extractorfans. The solar panel installation and connecting was straightforward with no inconvenience and the loft insulation was the same. All in all I consider myself very fortunate to have had these improvements to my house which I wouldn't have been able to afford myself.

Smooth and Professional Experience

I contracted Optama to upgrade my storage heaters after finding out I was eligible for funding through Home Energy Scotland. Their customer service was outstanding from start to finish. They acted promptly in arranging the quote, installation, waste removal, and post-installation EPC. They also supported me with all the documentation needed for my funding application. Leigh, in particular, was fantastic, her support and communication throughout the process were second to none. Overall, a wonderful service at a fair price. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Their communication was excellent. The scaffolding and installation arrangements happened as planned. The work was done in a day with no problems or mess. The installation team were very friendly and efficient, keeping us informed as the job progressed. Making savings already!

The guy who came and did the survey was sound, I then received texts saying they had "news" re the results of the survey, I asked them to call me at a specific time.........nothing, I have since messaged them asking for details....... nothing.very disappointing to say the least.

A whole team working great together. We were impressed from the initial consultation to the final dismantling of the scaffolding a couple of days after our solar panels were fitted. Optama's efficiency and customer care, communication and after service heartily recommended. And at an excellent cost as well.

Optama have just completed a total overhaul of our home energy equipment and we couldn't be happier. Solar panels, radiators throughout, a new heatpump, vents, loft insulation.... all done with incredible effectiveness by a fabulous group of workmen - the hardest working collection of people I've seen in a long time. Professional, efficient and each skilled in their own field. Not forgetting the admin/office staff who kept us informed at every stage and who have been very, very responsive to queries. This is what an excellent company looks like - and we can't recommend them highly enough.

I contacted Optama in Scotland for ECO4 home insulation and new electric storage heaters. Everything went smoothly and the installation process including solar panels, plastering and replacement electricals was done quickly and efficiently by skilled, friendly staff. Importantly for me (I have lung health issues and I'm over 70), the various tradesmen cleaned up after themselves carefully and the team that turned up to take away the 'rubbish' including the old heaters and insulation waste were great, even sweeping my driveway. The Optama team at head office were great, too. Responses to calls and emails were fast and efficient. I'd recommend the company.

From being to the end what a fantastic company. Quick efficient and helpful and the lads from the 2 plumbers to the lad that fitted the insulation to the team that fitted my solar panels, they were neat tidy and helpful and nothing was to much bother to explain or demonstrate how thing worked. Including the women in the office who continually were checking I was happy with how things were going ans answering any questions I might have. Can not recommend this company highly enough.

Overall I was pleased with the work Optama carried out. They fitted Air Heat Source heating and solar panels. Any problems were sorted quickly and efficiently. I would like to thank the office employees for being understanding and helpful. I will be employing you again when the Air Heat Source is due for a service.

Just had a full system comprising air source heat pump, solar panels and insulation installed in my old, rambling 6 bedroomed house, a house which is now warm and cosy. I cannot commend Optama highly enough for all their splendid customer care from first contact to surveying, installation, final commissioning and handover. The whole Optama team of engineers, plumbers, electricians, etc., were cheerful, helpful, professional and extremely hard-working from start to finish. Any queries I had were always responded to immediately by Brian who ensured I was happy at every stage of what was a complex installation. Based on my experience I would recommend Optama unreservedly to anyone contemplating the move to a greener heating set-up.

Had loft and wall insulation ..air source heat pump heating and solar panels installed the last few weeks .brilliant company every member or the team were efficient...project managed perfectly communication on the ball all the team were lovely and helpful and professional .they made the experience as less stressful as possible. Would highly recommend. Tha ls so much optama and the whole team for all the hard work and makeing the house nice and toasty 💥💥

Great customer service from the start, Cheryl, Callum and William all doing their best to get any enquires/answers we had. We live in an old stone cottage so an ideal project for the full system. The subcontractors we had were very professional and though there was the odd hiccup, the system is up and running smoothly. Many thanks to all involved.

We now have had our solar panels installed for about two months and are absolutely delighted. Right from the word go Andy the surveyor gave me confidence Optama knew what they are doing. The process took longer than planned but that was down to getting the licence to connect to the grid. The guys who installed were brilliant. Courteous and efficient they worked hard in very hot weather without complaint. They left everything tidy and communicated well throughout the process. Our gas boiler has been switched off since the installation and our energy consumption from the grid has clunked down. We have an electric car so feeding it from the panels means the only reason we go to the petrol station is to buy milk and bread ! No regrets and I would have no hesitation recommending Optama..

Excellent installation experience! Everything on the install day went smoothly. Really pleased with the quality of the installation - the panels looks great and the electrical wiring is very neat. Have a mixed experience with Optama customer service, it took over 5 months from me informing Optama that I had an approved loan offer from Home Energy Scotland to the installation actually happening. During that period I had promises of install dates that never came to fruition, e-mails and phone calls that were never returned, etc. However, Optama have recently hired Jonathan and suddenly everything is working like clockwork and communication is great. Fantastic job Jonathan and installation team - thanks for all your hard work!

You'll notice the common theme in the negative reviews is communication. We commissioned Optama for an ASHP and central heating system as well as a Solar array and battery. On commissioning both projects we were left in the dark about the majority of the project details unless chasing them. There was almost no consultation. Communication is a real weakness unless you get escalated to Brian. When they installed the heatpump there was an issue which caused it to freeze during installation. While this was out of their control we had to force them to acknowledge that this had put us out on the coldest night of the year. Overall the quality of the finish was rushed and they left a mess. This was nothing compared to the solar panel drama. I'm now reliably informed they should have been required to disclose any subcontractors they hired. Obviously choosing from the cheapest they hired a team of young people working without safety equipment. This destroyed my roof, and then my loft and kids bedroom when the rain came in. While they did eventually accept liability for this getting them to complete rectification works was an uphill battle. Now the dust has settled with the insurance and all the repairs and eventually after months getting the paperwork and documentation for just one of the projects (others still outstanding at time of review) I can say that I don't feel I would recommend them despite knocking £600 off the price tag for all the inconvenience.

Optama has done a great job in installing solar panels and battery system . Starting with Andy, Who did the survey and explained the entire installation process . Then the installation team who arrived on the promised day and completed all the work in good standard , Finally office staff Cheryl who helped me with all the post installation documents/paperwork/certificates/warranty docs. Overall I am very happy with their service , I hope they continue to provide the same level of customer service throughout the warranty period , which is were majority of company fails to do.

We had a heat pump installed in East Lothian by Steven and team back in January 2023. The install took 2 days and that included removing old boiler and changing 4 radiators. This was on microbore pipe as well but everything went really well and the pump is working amazingly well and costs us very little to run. Work was very good and efficient and some initial queries have been responded too post install. The unit was a 5kW Vaillant unit on a 4 year old home with solar and home battery in place already. Would strongly recommend Steven and team.

I first contacted Optama in February 2023 regarding installation of solar panels; the team at Optama were very efficient from first point of contact through to installation and after sales queries I had. The panels look great and I paid an additional cost for bird skirting which gives a really nice finish. I would definitely recommend adding the bird skirting on to your quote! I would not hesitate to use this company and have recommended their services to other friends and family.

I am going to stick to the facts of the timeline and let people make up their own mind why I gave this rating. 20 Oct 22. Solar PV and battery order placed. 19 Dec 22. Home Energy Scotland funding approved. Optama were informed. 12th Jan 23. HES loan was fully in place with all paperwork complete. Optama were informed. 20th Jan. I chased up my email from 12th as had no contact. First Install date was given as 1st Feb. 23-30 Jan. Failed to carry out installation survey several times with no communication when not turning up. 30 Jan. Eventually had a video call on same day as 3rd attempt at in person meeting. Was then told agreed batteries and invertor would be changed. 31 Jan. I rejected the change in equipment. Was told on the phone the original equipment could be installed the following week. 6 Feb. I emailed to check when it would be installed. 7 Feb. I chased email due of lack of response. Was told they were chasing supplier and there were supply issues. 20 Feb. I chased due to lack of contact. Was told 17 Mar for install. 10 Mar. I emailed to check it was going ahead. 14 Mar. I chased due to lack of response to be told of a delay of a week due to weather. 20 Mar. I emailed to check when install would be that week. 21 Mar. Received reply and was told that supplier had let them down. (Why was the equipment only being ordered this late. Should it not have been ordered for 17 Mar??) 21 Mar. I emailed to summarise delays and set a deadline install date of 31st March. 22 Mar. Was told they would aim for this. 30 Mar. I emailed to check what was happening as had no contact. Received email that they wanted to come and see me to work out a plan. I offered times on the next 3 working days. NO attempt was made by Optama to set a date or time for meeting. 4 Apr. I emailed to cancel the order. I received no response. 5 Apr. I emailed again requesting an immediate response. Our deposit was refunded by the end of the day.

What was the point? I had made contact with Optam via Instagram and they were very prompt at responding and booking a home visit to evaluate our property. Though that is where any form of service stopped. The representative Linda Douglas called me first thing to move my appointment to the afternoon which I said was fine but I had work at 4:30 pm. So we agreed on 3:30 pm as it should only take 30 minutes. She also confirmed what product I was looking for and had completely the wrong information. She had all the information for a hybrid boiler when I had made it very clear to the person we were looking for information on air heat source pumps. She ended io being 30 minutes late. She called me for directions and kept me on the phone for over 10 minutes talking rubbish and not listening to the directions I was giving her. When she did eventually arrive she waffled on about absolute rubbish unrelated to the reason for her visit. I received no information on heat source pumps. I received a “plucked out the air “ figure of £45k. I was informed that the government backing wouldn't make a dent in the cost of the heat source pump. She said that she would email me an accurate quote, funding options and information on air heat source pumps. And finally, I was late for work as she left at 4:25 pm. To this date, I have received nothing and it's been over two weeks now! I strongly recommend that if you are looking for any form of boiler upgrades you avoid this company as they are severely lacking in knowledge and other competencies.
