Avoid at all costs

I recently purchased my first EV and as part of the deal, Audi included Ohme home charger. Ohme then contracted out the installation of the charger to the company Smarter Utility. Do not be fooled by the name, that is where their intelligence begins and ends i’m afraid. I waited 3 months for them to get in touch and gave them the benefit of the doubt initially as I was not receiving my car until the end of January. On the 6th January, I filled out a home survey for the charger installation, as requested by Ohme, which was then sent to the installer. I tried emailing various times but never received a reply. Ohme the chased up Smarter Utility several times but still no contact. When I eventually managed to get the company on the phone, the staff were incredibly rude, condescending and altogether completely incompetent. They refused to provide me with an installation date and kept stating that I live too far away (I live in the same country they do). Eventually enough was enough and I challenged Ohme to provide me with a different installer. They then paired me with Bibbys, a Liverpool based company who immediately contacted me, set a date for installation and have now installed my new charger all in the space of 8 days. I cannot stress enough that if you happen to be paired with Smarter Utility as a EV installer, immediately contact your EV charger company and ask for Bibbys over Smarter Utility, it will save you a lot of time and stress.

A terrible company with problems with the electricity meter, and the manager in Scotland is irresponsible. I've been suffering from a faulty electricity meter for two months in this freezing cold.

Friendly and competent installer

Friendly and competent installer. Can't fault the installation. As an electrical engineer, I was very specific about where I wanted the charger fitted and how the cable was to be run and none of this was a problem on the day. Ohme charger. I was happy with the whole process. The self survey is pretty comprehensive but could be tricky to fill in for some less technical persons, but there is an option to have a physical survey carried out.

The installation of my Home Ohme E pod…

The installation of my Home Ohme E pod Smart charger was completed by the Smarter Utility engineer Matt in accordance with our requirements and in line with the specification given by Ohme. The work was undertaken on time in a competent manner. Options for routing the wiring and siting the charger to best suit our house layout were discussed and implemented. Matt worked within the timescale given, commissioned the charger properly and left a clean worksite.

On time. Quick, efficient and professional service. I would trust Smarter Utility in recommending them to my family and friends! Communication from head office to engineer would be a wee improvement, as in a call to customer “We are on the way to you”

OHME via Cupra

I had an OHME Home Pro charger installed via the Cupra promotion. I believe the work was carried out by a local subcontractor, work was carried out to a high standard with minimal disruption. Installer was friendly and knowledgeable.

From booking my charger from Ohme to Smarter Utility contacting me was really quick, I arranged an installation date and Engineer turned up on time on the day. He went over the installation process before he started and was quick and efficient after he completed work he went over everything with me thanks again Kieran for a hassle free install

Home Installation and survey

Home survey and installation were very good.Same installation engineer did both. Very professional and very helpful at explaining everything.Did a great job. Neat and tidy and no fuss about anything.

The engineer who installed ours did a great job. He took the time to run the cable so that it was well concealed and not visible from the front of our house. Very happy with the job done. Turned up when they said they would and did a great install.

Fast and efficient service .

Fast and efficient service . House survey was easy no hassle and went above and beyond to find the easiest most unobtrusive route that i actually didn't think they would take as under the house in small crawl space. The day they came phoned me before arrival , did the job as explained , positioned charger where discussed . Clean and tidy no fuss and so much smoother than i have heard colleagues have had with other companies . Would recommend and use again.

LAST FAULT HAD US OFF LINE FOR A 5 WEEKS BUT SMARTER UTILITIES HAD IT THEN SORTED IN THE FINAL WEEK ! THE PRIOR LENGTH OF CHAIN NEEDS TO BE SHORTENED! SMARTER UTILITIES SHOULD BE COMMENDED !

Excellent service

Very good communication throughout the process, with quick installation date scheduled, and in fact accelerated. Installation process was quick and straightforward, with good communication and demonstration of the system from the friendly installer. Highly recommend!

The poor communication and lack of…

The poor communication and lack of attention to customer needs put me off. When I finally obtained a date for installation ( only after going to OHME) everything went ok and the subbie who installed the charger was good. However I expect a quicker response and better communication for what was a simple installation

Annoying app

The installation was fine but the app is rather annoying. The car charging is managed by Octopus but the Ohme app doesn’t seem to understand that and keeps sending messages that the car is not charging.

The process from when we ordered…

The process from when we ordered through Ohme to have contact with Smarter Utility was very slow. It wasn’t until I chased up the installation, that we were able to book a date for fitting. On the day, we were told we would be contacted ahead of the engineer arriving which did not happen. I then had to phone to find out if he was still coming. When the engineer did finally arrive, he was not the most helpful or friendly and we ended up having the apps to support the charger set up wrong. We came to charger for the first time we had uninstall the apps, and redo it ourselves. The whole process was unnecessarily difficult. It’s unfortunate as I’m not one to write reviews, let alone negative ones however I wanted to share our experience so others don’t receive the same.

Very happy with communication leading up to install date. Installer left a great job and explained how to work the app and charger.

EV charger installed

Very quickly contacted us to advise of installation date and kept to the time and date with no issues. The electrician couldn't have been any nicer. Very pleasant and informative and made no mess whatsoever 10 out of 10

Fixed in ten minutes!

When Storm Eowyn knocked out our two year old solar power system, our installer was worse than useless and we eventually had to look elsewhere for help. We found Smarter Utility on Check-a-Trade and initially they were very helpful. Then we requested an appointment for the engineer to call & they went quiet. After a few days, I contacted them through their own website & it turned out that they had had a problem with logging into Check-a-Trade, and of course didn't have direct contact details for us. As soon as we got in touch they sent David out & the issue was fixed in ten minutes. He charged us only for his transport and the system has been running perfectly since. Definitely recommend them, but contact them by email or phone, not through Check-a-Trade!

I had been advised due to the site of my main board in the centre of the house that the best option was to go upstairs and out. This would entail lifting carpets and cutting channels in the chipboard flooring as well as moving furniture. It would also have required more cable. At considerable cost. One message to Smarter Utility proved to be the best move I’ve made in a while. First young guy came out, cut a small hatch and came up with the perfect solution. Tech guy who came out to complete the job had a few problems drilling to access the run to the board. Eventually he managed to his cables to complete the job. Never once did any of the guys give the impression that anything was a problem. This firm have obviously recruited “good “ guys who obviously know and enjoy their job. Thanks for a very tidy job which saved me £200 on a nightmare quote.

Exceeded expectations

We had our charger installation completed today on schedule. Communication beforehand was good and we were given exactly the charger location and wiring layout that we requested. The installer Stuart was excellent. Friendly, efficient and installed everything neatly and quickly. Work was completed the same day and the house, garage and driveway were all left clean and tidy. I would happily recommend Smarter Utility to friends and family.

Kieran was out fitting our charger this morning, lovely guy & super efficient, had it fitted in no time & cleaned up everything once he was done. Really took time to make sure the trunking didn't look out of place & it’s hardly noticeable at all. Explained everything.100% recommended

Beyond hopeless. Was meant to install my EV Port, messed me about for weeks with excuses, then advised they couldn’t carry out the necessary work, this was after a home visit from a surveyor who advised they could. Avoid at all costs.

Smarter Utilities Ltd for which this Google business profile was created is being struck off by Companies House. It owes many thousands in debts to trade suppliers and has outstanding CCJ's. The sole Director David McInally is still trading from the same address under the near identical name "Smarter Utilities Group Ltd" which is a non trading company according to Companies House formed in 2021. The website claims the company has traded from 2019, which is referring to the now closed company. The services offered are identical as are the e-mail addresses, website address, office address, and single sole shareholder David McInally.

Horrendous support. Had a charger installed in October. The charger trips the RCD and it has been weeks that we've been trying to get this sorted out. Most of the time their phone line is out of order or engaged. Promised phone calls don't happen and they missed their own appointment. The system was incorrectly installed and is essentially unusable.

Took 3 weeks to send out someone to replace my charger and then never changed it. Motability are not very happy

Leave you hanging for weeks and give you bum excuses about child care. Then contact you and tell you it'll be 5 weeks before they can come. Don't fall for their propaganda!!

Very happy with the service provided. Responses to phonecalls and messages were great. After a prompt survey, the installation was carried out within a few days. The cabling/EV charge look neat & tidy and function well with my car. Highly recommend.

Smarter Utility installed a Zappi car charger at our property and i'm delighted with the install. Rather than run the cabling in trunking outside the property they carefully routed the cable through our garage and out of the wall so there is no visible cabling. This was not simple process, and i must thank Stuart the installer for his excellent work. He even tidied up a rats nest of cabling left by another electrician. Stuart was very polite and explained clearly how everything works. Incidentally Smart Utility were the cheapest of the 3 quotes i got for the job. Highly recommended!

This company does an excellent job. The engineer knew exactly what he was doing in quite a complicated EV charger installation in an old house, utilising a fuse box from the garage and saving unsightly leads outside. Came on time. All arrangements went smoothly as the engineer had prechecked all the photos we had sent them. Billed exactly as per invoice. Happily drilled through a two foot thick wall to get the best placement for the charger! Cannot recommend them highly enough.

We were very happy with the service we received from Smarter Utility. Stuart installed our home charger and I'd explained how one of our concerns was the cable on the inside wall and asked if he could run it along the top of the skirting board to make it easier to hide. Without being asked he went the extra mile and managed to get it done with no visible wires at all. After installation they have been helpful in responding to some of our queries via email, their responses have always been quick and helpful.

I had not selected the EV charger I wanted at the time of inviting Smarter Utility to give me a price for the supply and installation of a home EV Charger. David came at the appointed time and talked me through my options. After due consideration, I decided on the MyEnergi, Zappi EV charger as I intend to install solar panels at a future date. During the installation, the electrician saw an opportunity to use a spare data cable that would eliminate the need for the Harvi unit. I received a credit for the unused Harvi unit. I can only praise the service of the Smarter Utility guys Great customer service and we will use them in the future as we are looking at the installation of solar panels.

David & the team where great. Installed EV charging points for our customers and staff, used safe process for distancing, covered all furnishings, neat and tidy work areas and kept us informed throughout. Demonstrated how best to use the chargers and overall we recieved a quality job and dealing with the company was effortless. Pleasure to have them on site. We just had an initial chat regards our needs, David sent over a couple of options and everything was taken care of from there. Would recommend to anyone 👍🏻

Great quick and professional service. I had a hard and time consuming job I was recommended smarter utility by a friend. Electrician called me I didn’t know all the technical terms of what I was asking them to do he was very clear and made the job easy for me to understand what was going to happen. On the day of the job they arrived at the agreed time and there was very little mess I felt my property was respected at all time. 5 star service I would highly recommend.
