Not a universal one. Several websites advertise a “£7,500 solar grant in Scotland”, but that figure is the Home Energy Scotland heat pump grant. Home Energy Scotland's own funding tables show no grant for solar PV panels: only solar thermal and hybrid solar PV/water heating systems qualify for support, and that support is a £5,000 interest-free loan, not a grant. Battery storage currently gets no HES funding either.

Warmer Homes Scotland: fully funded improvements
Warmer Homes Scotland is the Scottish Government's main fuel-poverty scheme, delivered by Warmworks. In most cases the Scottish Government meets all the costs; support is typically worth £10,000 or more. Improvements are decided by a Warmworks survey and can include wall and loft insulation, draught-proofing, central heating (including air source heat pumps), and installing a home renewables system where the surveyor recommends one.
You qualify if your household includes someone who:
- ✓ Receives a passport benefit (Universal Credit, Pension Credit Guarantee, Housing Benefit, disability payments, Carer Support Payment, and others), or
- ✓ Is aged 75 or over with no working heating, or
- ✓ Has a DS1500 / BASRiS medical certificate
Your home must:
- ✓ Be your main residence (owned or rented from a private landlord)
- ✓ Have been lived in for at least six months
- ✓ Have a poor energy rating (assessed by Warmworks)
- ✓ Have a floor area of 230m² or less, council tax band A–G

The £7,500 Home Energy Scotland grant is NOT for solar panels
The Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan is Scotland's flagship home energy scheme, and it is generous: a £7,500 grant plus an optional £7,500 interest-free loan for air, ground, or water source heat pumps, with a £1,500 rural uplift for rural and island homes. You do not need to be on benefits, but you must own and live in the home.
Solar PV was removed from the scheme's funded measures. As of August 2026, the funding tables list:

Residential solar supply and installation is zero-rated for VAT across the UK, including Scotland, confirmed until at least March 2027. That is roughly £1,000–£1,400 off a typical system versus the standard 20% rate, applied automatically on your installer's invoice. Battery storage installed with the panels is also zero-rated.
Smart Export Guarantee
