SolarEdge Review UK (2026)
Quick Answer
Premium string inverter with per-panel DC optimisers, the go-to for shaded or complex roofs.
Data verified April 2026. UK installed pricing varies with installer, site and package.
At a Glance
| Origin | Israel (founded 2006), global leader in DC-optimised string inverters |
| UK support | Strong, established UK office and service network |
| Capacity / sizing | 2.2 kW – 17 kW (single-phase); larger three-phase available |
| Efficiency | 99%+ peak; ~97% European-weighted |
| Warranty | 12 years on inverter; 25 years on optimisers |
| Indicative UK price | £1,800–£3,200 installed (includes optimisers per panel) |
Tariff Compatibility
SolarEdge works with the following UK export tariffs (see our best Octopus tariffs for solar guide):
- Octopus Flux (with compatible battery)
- Outgoing Fixed
Strengths
- Power optimisers mitigate shading and panel-level faults, only the affected panel drops output
- Panel-level monitoring in the mySolarEdge app, invaluable for diagnostics
- Arc-fault detection and rapid shutdown for safety on complex roofs
- Compatible with SolarEdge Home Battery for integrated ecosystem
Weaknesses
- Significantly more expensive than a standard string inverter (+£300–£800 typically)
- Per-panel optimisers add components to a system, more potential failure points
- As a standalone inverter it isn't covered by Intelligent Octopus Flux, so battery export can't be automated for the peak window
Who SolarEdge Suits Best
Shaded roofs, multi-orientation arrays (e.g. panels on two roof faces), or homeowners who want panel-level monitoring. A safe premium choice.
When to Avoid
You have a simple south-facing roof with no shading, a good string inverter costs £400–£800 less and delivers similar output.
Popular Models
- HD-Wave (SE3000H–SE10000H)
- Genesis (newer platform)
- SolarEdge Home Hub (hybrid for battery)
Frequently Asked Questions
Is SolarEdge worth the extra cost?
Yes if your roof has shading, complex multi-orientation arrays, or you want panel-level monitoring. On a simple south-facing unshaded roof, a standard string inverter saves £300–£800 with similar output.
What's the SolarEdge warranty?
12 years standard on the inverter (extendable to 20 or 25), and 25 years on the power optimisers. Few UK brands cover both the inverter and the panel-level hardware for that long.
Does SolarEdge work with any solar panels?
Yes. SolarEdge is panel-agnostic, works with Jinko, JA Solar, Trina, Canadian Solar, Aiko and any standard 60/66/72-cell panel. Each panel gets its own optimiser.
Can SolarEdge work with batteries?
Yes, via the SolarEdge Home Hub hybrid inverter. Compatible with the SolarEdge Home Battery. Third-party batteries (LG, BYD) are also supported in some configurations.
