Excellent job by Naked Solar

I contacted Naked Solar because I was worried about the quality and safety of a solar and battery installation carried out at my home by a national company. I had decided to use this company ( ESE Solar ) because their quotes were good and their reviews on TrustPilot were largely positive in their early days. But there were problems from the very first day of installation. Naked Solar have now carried out an assessment of the old installation and have removed all aspects of it that were unsafe. They have now installed a high quality system that is working well. In a nutshell here is what was wrong with the installation by ESE Solar: 1. They advised placing the battery storage in the loft which is a fire risk 2. They used cheap Chinese batteries and inverter 3. They did a poor job of installing the solar panels- drilling through the frames to attach bird proof netting which could potentially have voided the warranty on the panels 4. They installed too many panels on one string which overloaded the inverter which had to be replaced within a month 5. They then joined some panels from the string which was too big to a string on a different aspect on the roof, placing Tigo Optimisers on all these panels. ( these optimisers I have now discovered were unnecessary) 6. Four of these optimisers burnt out soon after installation so that the power generated by that string was greatly reduced 7. They did return and replace the four failed optimisers but didn’t investigate why that had happened, so after a couple of weeks they burnt out again 8. When I informed them that the same problem had reoccurred they said there was nothing wrong and closed the case I had raised 9. It is impossible now to speak to ESE Solar about any technical issue. Customers can only raise a ticket online. ESE are very poor at responding. 10. The electrician did not place any of the required safety labelling on any of the equipment 11. The electrical work did not meet regulatory standards and the cable work was poor 12. The consumer unit was left with open circuits 13. ESE sub contracts to other companies to do the installation. This means the quality of installation can vary. When I asked why the original electrician couldn’t return to fix the problems I was told verbally that ESE no longer used him because his work was substandard! What a difference it has been dealing with a reputable local company! Right from early days of talking through the issues by phone and arranging a site visit through to the actual days of removing dangerous aspects of ESE’s work and doing a proper job of installation I have found every member of Naked Solar’s team to be friendly and professional. Even the scaffolders were nice people! I decided to keep my existing panels as they were still functional and fortunately the roof mounting system didn’t need replacing. The inverter and batteries were removed from the loft and I now have a Tesla Powerwall 3 which is sited externally. Job done. All I need now is some sunshine!

Naked Solar - Highly Recommended

Naked Solar are not the cheapest supplier but it is the level of service that makes the extra worth paying for. Starting with the initial sales contact, they listened to what what I wanted, made their recommendations during the design phase and delivered a superb system. Essentially I only wanted the minimum of Chinese components in the system and that's what they gave me. Installation was delayed over Christmas (no suprise there) and a day or so in January for component delivery. I was kept informed, so it was not an issue. The installers were professional, friendly and competent. There was a WiFi issue that made connection to the system an issue but Naked Solar installed a WiFi booster ar no additional charge. Support has been spot on. Any questions asked were responded to knowledgably and promptly. I strongly recommend Naked Solar.

Jake took the time to understand what we were wanting to get out of battery storage and once we'd decided to go ahead the installation team were great. They didn't leave until they'd thoroughly explained the system to us so we understood how it all worked. A great experience all round.

Perfect in every eay

From talking through our solar solution the team have been fantastic. They have helped with everything and on the week of our install we experienced our first power cut. It felt so strange being the only house with lights on in the street. Thank you so much you have been amazing guys, and we are so grateful.

Brilliant from start to finish, we've just had 16 panels installed on our garage and we could not fault Naked Solar. Zach was our first contact with Naked Solar and he took us through the options we had. He discussed what our views were on technology, length of guarantees we would be looking for and what it is we actually wanted to use solar for - we had time to think / debate and from that he outlined options and we then made a decision in our timescales. We then had a site visit and Naked Solar came up with a detailed plan and refined cost once the exact details were worked out such as cable lengths / routes within the house etc. We discussed various options and came up with the one which would work best. Dates were sent for the installation and we had conformation on the scaffolding installation dates. The engineers arrived when planned, as did the scaffolding guys. Everyone knew the plan and they got on with it. All the engineers / electricians were good and a particular shout out goes to Rhys who did most of the electrical work. Frankly, I was dreading some sort of upheaval with all the wiring going in and it was painless. He even arranged the order of what he was going to fit around us. He explained the technology and got us logged in / set up and we were eagerly waiting for sunrise the next day to see the solar in action. Throughout they were keen to ensure that we were happy with what they were doing and we were and remain so.

Brilliant from start to completion. We were presented with options following discussions with Zach and these were based on what we wanted not what Naked Solar wanted to sell. The site visit ironed out the exact details for the installation and these were spot on when it came to the installation itself which was drama free. Rhys, who did the majority of the electrical work, was professional, friendly, knowledgeable and TIDY. We've got a great product from a great team of people and I'm more than happy to recommend them to anyone (in fact already have !)

Very impressed with the whole Naked Solar team. An extremely professional organisation from the face to face Teams discussions to the technical advisors on a pergola structure being created just to carry solar panels. Nobody was pushy or trying to steer us towards a specific product, they worked with us establishing a budget and advised on a range of ideas which would work for our individual project.

I had naked solar install 16 panels with solar skirt and 2 Tesla power wall 3 batteries. After install I asked about adding 4 more panels. They was more than happy to accommodate me and was installed really fast and work was done to a very high standard. I would recommend naked to anyone looking for solar install and battery installs very professional and kept me updated on everything that was happening.

The company were great from start to finish. Really good advice changing options as I discovered what was available at what cost. The design was explained to me as the engineer came to the house and all the installation team, including the scaffolders, couldn’t have been more helpful.

You can't fault this company, nothing is too much trouble. Everything is explained thoroughly and whoever you deal with is polite and helpful. From everyone involved ,scaffolders/solar installers/electricians/office staff ,they are all so helpful and polite. They also tidy up each day. If we could we would give 10stars! We looked around at various companies before using naked and we are very happy we chose them. Very local to us which is obviously great. Price wise comparable to everyone else but the service levels from initial calls to information and installation were excellent. Everyone we spoke to or met at the house were polite, professional, friendly, knowledgeable and just generally seemed to care about what they were doing. Our roof provided some difficulties for them but they got it done, overcame problems and finished to a high standard. Thanks so much to you all.

Highly recommended. Did a really professional over the air diagnostic job on a faulty Solar Edge installation, successfully transferred the ownership of the system, fixed the problem and arranged for the Solar Edge to cover the cost via their warranty. Brilliant service, and they're local. 100% recommend.

Excellent service and staff

I am really please with my 7.5 kW solar array and two Powerwall3 batteries. The whole experience was a pleasant one from dealing with Holly in the office on the phone and email to Matt for the site survey and the two solar installers and two electricians who fitted the system and left the location spotless after they left. Everyone was very professional and always happy to answer my multiple questions. Now looking forward to generating and storing some power in case or power outages.

I am delighted with my solar and battery installation. They were always there to answer my questions and would call back if they needed to check something. The quality of the work is outstanding. What stood out for me is that they designed the system I needed and did not try to upsell anything. It is perfectly designed.

We’ve just had our solar panels installed by Naked Solar and the whole experience has been excellent. From start to finish everything was handled so smoothly. The team were professional, friendly and clearly cared about the details — they even cleaned out our gutters while they were up there, which was such a thoughtful touch. The scaffolders were polite and respectful, and the installation itself was neat and tidy. The panels are already performing brilliantly and we’ve seen huge savings on our bills. It’s a great feeling to be generating so much of our own clean energy and to know the system is working exactly as promised. Naked Solar have been fantastic, and we’re more than happy to recommend them to anyone considering solar.

Naked Solar did a really professional job. They talked us through the options and helped us select the right equipment. The panels look sleek on the roof and they hid the wiring well. On sunny days we are completely self sufficient and our electricity bill is £0, plus we can sell our excess energy to the grid. Fantastic company from start to finish.

Service charges

Naked solar need to review their very high call out charge, but their service is good.

Very pleased with my naked solar experience. Ollie was very helpful in the early stages of going through designs and pricing up several different quotes as well as being a helpful contact for updates throughout. Ben provided the design exactly as I wanted tailored to my needs. On the day of install the roofers Josh and Nathan were punctual and polite and happy to go about their work. Tom the electrician was also very polite and helpful going through the installation. I have no doubt that the install team took pride in their work. All the people I have dealt with during this process have been great and I would definitely recommend naked solar.

There quality of work has bee outstanding and there staff are a pleasure to deal with . I liked the quote , I could see everything that I was being charged for , work was completed ahead of time and I couldn't be happier

Wouldn't go with anyone else

Last year, Naked Solar installed solar panels and I've been delighted with the result. Wish I'd got them years ago. This year I decided to get a battery to go with them. I liked the idea of having one which would still provide energy during power cuts and ended up going for a Tesla Powerwall 3. As before, all my communications with the Jake Phillips and the rest of the company were great, giving me all the information I needed with no hard sell. On the installation days, the two electricians, Neil and Charlie, were friendly and professional, checking with me throughout and explaining everything carefully at the end. To be honest, I didn't even bother getting other quotes for the battery. I completely trust Naked Solar to do an excellent job and also to be there in the future if there are any issues.

Powerwall 3 installation

Having decided to update to battery storage with my solar panels, I obtained several quotes from different companies, both local to me and national. Naked Solar although not the cheapest ,came across as professional and honest. I followed recommendations and decided on the Tesla Powerwall 3. From the start of my dealings with the company, every query I had was answered promptly. My point of contact was Solar consultant, Jack Neale who could not have been more helpful. The system was installed by Dave Isaac and Josh. The quality of the installation is outstanding! As stated, you can find cheaper companies but you get what you pay for. I do not believe you could receive any better service than Naked Solar.

My experience of Naked Solar was outstanding from beginning to end. Everything was completed to a very high standard and the work ethic of everyone involved was second to none. Particular thanks must go to Jake who discussed the initial options with me and was very patient while I got my head around the multiple choices available to me. On the day of installation Carlos and Gary arrived on time and completed the roof installation in an efficient and considerate manner. The two electricians, Gary and Tom were both exceptional ensuring that all their work met my expectations and that everything was as I wished. Without exception they were all very polite and friendly and cleared everything up after themselves. I have no hesitation in recommending Naked Solar as a Company as their attention to detail and the care of their employees is second to none. Quite simply, the best company I’ve ever worked with. The pre-sales service, communication, installation, and electricians were all excellent from start to finish. Nothing was ever a problem and the whole system was installed perfectly within the timescales discussed. The whole system is working well, and we are already discussing future options. Nice work and a great team, thank you very much.

I expected a lot more from Naked Solar but was extremely disappointed by the whole process. At one stage the owner/boss was shouting at me down the phone. Whilst the installed system works, it underperforms and does not make best use of the installed panels capacity. The quality of the workmanship is also poor. In reply to the response from Naked Solar: 1. It was you Tony that shouted at me during a phone call. I have a diary note of the incident. 2. Please see the photo of my 8kW system (8kW of panels) flatlining at 6kW on a cold sunny day. I wonder how many kWh are being wasted and the linked reduction of CO2e not being achieved? 3. The RECC is an industry specific body paid for by its members subscriptions and therefore not independent. An offer was made by Naked Solar to replace the inverter but this was very swiftly withdrawn. When I requested the price for an inverter that would allow full utilisation of the panels you quoted a price significantly higher than I could obtain elsewhere. 4. I was never asked my view of the workmanship and no close out discussion took place. Despite my property being a no smoking zone your workers happily smoked on site and left their cigarette butts on my driveway. There was also a lot of debris/rubbish left behind. Please see the attached photos for examples of the workmanship. The vertical conduit is not straight, the fixings are poor quality, the routing and fixing of the flexible conduit is poor, there are unprotected cables, there are loose cable glands - there seems to be little pride in the work. These are only the aspects of the installation that are visible so I do wonder about the quality of the installation on the roof.

The first thing that strikes you about Naked Solar when you begin researching solar installers in the far southwest is the exceptionally high quality of all their customer reviews, and this one’s going to be no different. They’re far from being the cheapest, though they’re competitive if you don’t opt for the higher end componentry that we did. They will patiently detail and specify a whole range of cost and spec options to allow you to refine the installation details for your particular needs. They design remotely using Google Earth imagery, but make a site visit once you’ve committed a small deposit, to confirm details and inspect the roof structure. I can’t speak highly enough of the installation process itself. The scaffolding subcontractors were really nice guys, and the guys (and girls) on Naked’s installation teams couldn’t have been pleasanter or more professional – unfailingly friendly, willing to explain, and respectful of our property, to the point that we missed them all when they left! It was a larger and not particularly straightforward install, but was completed in under three days by throwing three teams at the job for the first two days. Everything, from the slate work around our four recessed panels, to the external and internal cable routing, was completed to a very high standard by people who took an obvious pride in getting every detail right. Since then we’ve been delighted with the system’s performance, even during a wet November. Only two minor flies in the ointment of an otherwise perfect review – if you want recessed panels in an existing rather than a new roof that isn’t being re roofed at the time, they are very reluctant to commit their own roofers to the job (they did agree to in the end, and the guys did an outstanding job, as the photos show). The scaffolding hung around for a little longer than promised, but no doubt that’s just workload. If the after sales care proves to be as excellent as other customers say it is, we’ll be equally happy going forward. I would absolutely go with Naked another time – we used them ourselves following recommendation from friends – and can’t speak highly enough of their service so far.

Brilliant system design. Friendly and efficient service. Very neat installation (thanks Charlie!). There were some delays - but that was due to Tesla Powerwall availability. Also not the cheapest - but worth the money for the service, clean install and helpful email and phone calls.

Used this company for a small solar panel installation, they have also helped with the relocation of the solar inverter following the recent property upgrade, very communicative and helpful throughout the process with good pricing. Thanks very much! ------ Editing this review after 5 years... Still the same 5 star service! We first used Naked Solar in 2015 to install a small array of panels. Since then we had to have them out to move an inverter in 2018 and they have also visited again this August 2023 due to an inverter fault which required replacement. Despite the inverter not being under manufactures warranty, Jacob at Naked Solar kindly honoured what was mistakenly detailed on the original paperwork/invoice, despite us not knowing or checking this which is an extremely honest and kind gesture. The electrician they sent to replace the inverter was extremely kind and got the job down in no time at all and left everything in perfect order. I was also impressed as I was kept up to date on their planned arrival time and was made sure I was happy with everything before the electrician left site. Thanks very much Naked Solar - keep up the amazing work and I will certainly be continuing to recommending you to others!

They fitted my integrated solar panel car charger during covid and did a beautiful job! I felt very safe during their visit and the kit works beautifully.
