Octopus Air Conditioning: What They Actually Offer

Octopus Energy doesn't install air conditioning itself. Its "smart cooling" service connects you with Octopus Trusted Partners: independent companies that pay Octopus an introduction fee, and a commission if you go ahead. Here's how the scheme works, what it means for your price, and where the prototype Cosy Cooler fits in.

Quick Answer

Octopus Energy refers air conditioning and air-to-air heat pump enquiries to Octopus Trusted Partners, independent installers who pay Octopus an introduction fee and commission. Octopus publishes no aircon prices; the partner quotes and handles the job, including complaints. Octopus is also trialling a Cosy Cooler cooling add-on for its Cosy heat pump, still at prototype stage.

How Octopus's cooling service works

Octopus's smart cooling page covers air conditioning and air-to-air heat pumps, and the process runs in four steps: you answer questions about your home, Octopus matches you with a Trusted Partner, the partner contacts you within a few days, and you decide whether to proceed, with no obligation. The partners are independent companies, not Octopus staff. Octopus is paid an introduction fee by the partner, plus commission if the installation goes ahead, which Octopus states comes at no extra cost to you.

One detail worth knowing before you rely on the brand name: your contract is with the partner, not Octopus. Quotes, installation, aftercare and any complaints are handled by the partner under its own complaints process.

Octopus air conditioning prices

Octopus publishes no air conditioning price list; every job is quoted by the partner. That means the market rates apply: a single-room wall-mounted split typically costs £1,500 to £3,000 fitted in the UK, a multi-split for 2 to 3 rooms £4,000 to £8,000. The full breakdown is in our air conditioning cost guide. A referral partner's quote should land in those ranges, and if it doesn't, that's exactly what a second and third quote will surface.

What is the Octopus Cosy Cooler?

Separately from the partner referral scheme, Octopus has announced it is trialling the Cosy Cooler, an air conditioning add-on for its Cosy air-to-water heat pump range. Octopus describes it as being at the earliest prototype stage, not ready for summer 2026, and open only to existing Cosy heat pump customers as trial participants. If you want cooling now, this isn't a product you can buy yet; a standard wall-mounted split system or air-to-air heat pump is the available route.

Octopus Aircon FAQ

Does Octopus Energy install air conditioning?

Not directly. Octopus refers air conditioning and air-to-air heat pump enquiries to Octopus Trusted Partners, independent installation companies in its partner network. The partner provides the quote, does the installation and handles any complaints under its own process.

How much does Octopus air conditioning cost?

Octopus publishes no aircon prices; the Trusted Partner quotes each job individually. Market rates apply: £1,500 to £3,000 fitted for a single-room split system, £4,000 to £8,000 for a multi-split covering 2 to 3 rooms. Comparing independent quotes alongside the partner's is the reliable price check.

Do Octopus Trusted Partners cost extra?

Octopus says no: the partner pays Octopus an introduction fee and a commission if the installation goes ahead, at no extra cost to you. As with any commission-funded referral, the way to verify your quote is fair is to compare it against independent quotes for the same job.

What is the Octopus Cosy Cooler?

A cooling add-on for the Octopus Cosy air-to-water heat pump that Octopus is trialling with existing Cosy customers. Octopus describes it as an early-stage prototype that is not yet a purchasable product. For cooling you can buy today, a wall-mounted split system or air-to-air heat pump is the available option.

Should I use the Octopus referral or find my own installer?

Do both. Take the Trusted Partner quote if you're an Octopus customer, then compare it against 2 to 3 quotes from independent local F-Gas certified installers. Whichever route you choose, your contract is with the installation company, so its reviews and warranty matter more than the referring brand.
